Calliope Productions represent several innovative early music groups, all of whom have been praised for their innovative approaches to presentation and the ease with which they convey music to an audience. 

A number of the groups work with actors, writers and dancers to combine music with dramatic presentation and spoken word.

Mediva

This upbeat 8-piece medieval group having been converting people up and down the country to their unique brand of medieval music.  They were finalists in the 2001 International Early Music Young Artists Competition, have made several appearances on BBC Radio 4’s Loose Ends and have been featured on Radio 3’s In Tune and Late Junction.  Also see www.mediva.co.uk

The Troubadours

Prize-winning poet Jenny Lewis teams up Clare Norburn (voice) and Leah Stuttard (harp) for a unique performance of poems which were inspired by the 12th century troubadours of Southern France, combined with the haunting songs of the troubadours themselves.  “Exhilarating!” – The Independent.

Airs & Graces

This flexible group of musicians and actors offer something rather different from most ensembles: words and music are combined with lively, imaginative and witty presentation and detailed research of historical programmes from the 18th century.

The Barthelemon Circle

An innovative group consisting of musicians, an actress and a writer who have got together to explore new ways of combining words and music from the 18th century.

Third Voice

Intimate programmes of medieval music with readings and candlelight.  Singers Clare Norburn and Ariane Prüssner have been described as a “perfect vocal contrast” and “a duo to die for”.
