“Singing
for the Soul”
an
introduction to singing chant and medieval music
one
day workshops with Clare
Norburn
£40
per person (waged) £32 (concessions)
next dates: Autumn 2002
Singing
medieval music is a life enhancing experience!
The music is wonderfully free from constraints and speaks with an unusual
emotional directness – it represents a whole new world of expression and is
closer in spirit to world and folk music.
This
one day workshop is suitable for both beginners and experienced performers.
We
will explore some of most spiritual and beautiful songs and chants and look at
how to tackle singing this unusual repertoire.
The music will include chant by the extraordinary medieval abbess Hildegard
of Bingen, lively 13th century Spanish cantigas and the
moving poetry and music of the 12th century troubadours.
“humanity’s bridge to the heavenly harmonies” – Hildegard’s view of music
